Honestly, you have to logically admit this, did Obama deserve the Nobel Peace Prize? No. Not yet, anyways, who knows, he could bring a peaceful end to war eventually. If he does something to deserve it, sure, give it to him. But what the hell has he done?

I was never for the war in the first place, but now that we're in we can't just pull out. The people in the Middle East still need aid stabilizing government, and Iran has just proven that they have nuclear weapon capability. Or do you think they're just going to have a big fireworks show?

Who I think should have won the Nobel Peace Prize is someone working towards peace nonviolently, who is an example to everyone that you can't fight fire with fire and expect no innocent lives to be taken. Ms. Cheney and many others claim that, "The US military is the greatest peacekeeping force in the world today." She is wrong on both counts. It is neither a "peacekeeping force", nor "greatest".

Even given Liz Cheney's bizarre ethical framework, this makes no sense. On the second count, let me say something that almost no one is saying: Judging by the fact that they have been unable to win either of the two wars that they have been involved in for 6 or 7 years, and that they seem to be making negative progress in Afghanistan, the US military, including their civilian leadership, is simply not that competent. This is despite the fact that we spend more money on defense than the rest of the world combined, despite that we have weapons far more sophisticated than our enemies, and have much greater population and resources than our enemies, "Can do" attitude is not the same as being able to do. It's time to let go of the empire mentality, not that it was ever justified in the first place.

Right on! I totally agree with you. During the first year or two of our occupation of Iraq, these mercenaries were being represented by corporate media as though they were our regular military. Recall in Fallujah, the killing of four soldiers--corp media lead viewers to believe they were our regular military soldiers and later it was revealed that these four American "soldiers" were in fact blackwater/xe mercenaries.

These private military corporations (murder, inc.-type thugs) must be stopped. I think they are a private military force that has been created specifically to protect the interests of the banksters and the too-big-to-fail corporations from the rest of us--and that makes them a serious threat to our national security as far as I'm concerned.

And isn't it interesting that if they're working for us, blackwater/xe and their ilk are often referred to as being paramilitary--when in reality, they are no different than any other terrorist organization. The hypocrisy is sickening.

Of course, the Nobel Peace prize became a farce when it was awarded to Henry Kissinger, Death Merchant of Southeast Asia, so she does have the "farce" part correct, only in the wrong context.

Don't be so hard on the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1973, when it was awarded to Kissinger and Le Duc Tho of Vietnam, two members of the five member Nobel Committee resigned in protest, and Le Duc Tho DECLINED the Prize, refusing to go accept it in Norway, because there was still no peace in his country.

Of course, Kissinger went to get his medal and money, because he was all about advancing the career of Henry A. Kissinger, no matter who gets killed...

Absolutely true, mrneutron-- but presenting the Peace Prize to such a vile warmonger as Kissinger still diminished the award. That said, Liz Cheney should be spending her time writing letters to her souless father in jail instead of airing her warped views on TV. That the entire lot of them aren't in prison leaves a hole in the balance of the universe.

True, the prize was "diminished" the year Kissinger won it.

But I wouldn't call it a "farce". Flawed, yes, but an Ideal that sometimes inspires:

1989 - The 14th Dalai Lama
1991 - Aung San Suu Kyi
1993 - Nelson Mandela
1997 - International Campaign to Ban Landmines, Jody Williams
2001 - United Nations, Kofi Annan
2003 - Shirin Ebadi
2006 - Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank
2007 - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Al Gore

The real question is not whether Obama deserved the "Prize" but rather why is Lynne Cheney and the rest of these clowns putting America down for this achievement? If these cynics are so ashamed of having an American President so honored, let them lodge a formal protest with the committee and nominate W and/or his death-dealing VP. The truth is that if there was a prize for "the world's greatest promoter of preemptive war and displaced aggression," Daddy Cheney would take top honors. Now that would be something all of us could be proud of. Cheney could then accept the prize during his next hunting trip and cap the festivities off by shooting his loud mouthed daughter.

Funny that LIz Cheney should discuss and suggest a fallen soldiers family member should receive the Nobel Prize for peace when you consider that her father, Dick prefers war over peace.

Dick Cheney who refused to do his duty and go to Vietnam but chose repeatedly to get deferments to keep himself out of harms way. LIke his good buddy Bush these two frightened little rabbits saw that their family connecitons and money kept them at home sending others in their stead to die..

Along with DIck Cheney, his daughter chooses to live in a make beleive world. Just rewrite the facts to suit the madness of what is the Cheney brain.

Our president, if he hasn't already, will earn the peace prize.

2) John McCain has a son serving in the military
3) Sarah Palin has a son serving in the military
4) Jimmy Carter sent his children to public schools (BO says not for his kids...elitist)
