as soon as i read the first line "southern baptist church" i had no more reason to continue reading and went straight to the comment page. to all my baptist friends i went tto a funeral in a baptist church. if you are the real Christians you say you are why is there not a cross in the building? also at the Lord's supper you drink grape juice, when it is clearly noted that Jesus took the cup of wine blessed looked up to His Father then told the apostles to drink from this cup of my blood whenever you do this remember Me

some of these idiots are amazing... its terrifying that this could happen so near my home. It's like they think god wrote the king james bible himself or something. He would probably puke all over it if he were to actually read it. I'm sure they never read Fahrenheit 451 because they either would have burned it too or actually learned something.

I believe book burning is of Satin. Hell why not just burn every book store and libary. That should give the southern baptist people a fun fille day. I also do not believe they should judge homosexuals thats like judging a person with any kind of birth defect or because they are of a different race. that is interesting about the similarities between the early greek 'god' and Jesus; but if you're saying that the life and resurrection of Jesus from the dead is only a fable, then how did Christianity become so popular? What was its real origin if Jesus never actually existed? I find it hard to believe that the disciples and early followers of Jesus Christ made up the whole story of Jesus (including the most important part: rising from the dead & thereby conquering death, proving that he was/is God) considering that each of them died a martyrs death (ex. John beheaded, Peter crucified upside down on a cross, Matthew killed by a sword, Mark hung... not fun ways to go). IF they made up the story including the resurrection (no resurrection = Jesus not really God) then why die for something they made up? If I made up a lie like that and somebody said they were going to kill me unless I admitted it was fraud, I would come clean. Maybe you could argue that they were all delusional and believed the lie for so long they really actually thought it happened, even though it didn't. You could use that argument if there were only one or two martyrs, but that is a ridiculous explanation considering there were scores of people who claimed to see Jesus resurrected and died an unpleasant death because they wouldn't back down from what they knew was true, that Jesus actually was raised from the dead. And as far as the book burning goes, these people don't understand Christianity.

what a bunch of kool-aid drinking, holier-than-thou right-wing zealots... scary for those involved and affected by these types... I highly suggest that those involved take a 2 week (or longer) vacation away from these people (if you can escape their mind-control tactics) so you can see what's really going on... wake up, enjoy life and be done with this EVIL cult.

isn't the KJ version the infallible word of King James? Are these the same people that believe "if English was good enough for Jesus it's good enough for me"? No doubt James had a lot of good reasons to oversee an English translation of the infinitely mutable tome, and no doubt these people have a lot of good reasons for upholding it, but why should we care? These people are too whacko to have any real power anymore. Let the babies have their bbq. Anything worth reading is on the internet by now anyway.

Tonight the heaven opened and rain fell. Book burning didn't take place. There were several news crews, reports, Sheriff and protesters. If I had been the pastor I would have been embarrassed that more protesters came out than members. There may have been books destroyed but when the flock left the building it was the woman and children first, only five of them and then the pastor himself. As the woman and children left he turned out the porch light, as if trying to hide their identities and turned it on and then back off when he left.

During the service it was said the news crew and others were listening through the floor upstairs and could here yelling from the service. The only disappointing thing was that more locals didn't attend the event. One came as far as Chattanooga, Tn and others an hour or so away. Was a peaceful event and most that were there didn't agree with this radical man!

I know Halloween isn't very Christian and being and atheist, and an American I am fine with them doing this. It doesn't make much sense, it won't do any good and technically they're harming "God's" planet with more pollution.

I must say, I'm glad you only said half of the GOP. I happen to be Republican politically and atheist religiously. (Yes, for you wordsmiths, I am religiously atheistic!) Christians who read their Bible will see that Christianity is a COMMUNISTIC religion. HM That would be on the left of the political spectrum, would it not? The only reason so many Christers are in the GOP is because, being inherently racist, they got P.O.'d when Johnson (for whatever personal reasons, beliefs or political stratagem) signed the civil rights act and they left their rightful political party; the Dems.

Interesting. The King James bible is the inerrant, infallible word of God, writtten in 1611 by a collection of Elizabethans, including Shakespeare, and known to have translation errors in it when it first went to press. Why aren't these folks burning the King James version and supporting the version produced in the nineteenth-century (I believe) that fixed innumerable errors with the KJV? Wouldn't God's infallible word require that human beings don't manage to f--- up the Hebraic and Aramaic words he would have spoken?

Do they have a permit for the burning of garbage? Does NC have an Air Quality Control Board? Where is law enforcement? Is this a controlled burn? If these people wish to go out and spend their hard earned money to buy books just to burn them, that is their right, but they must not do it in a way that harms the rest of us. I would hate to live down wind of their toxic plume or have a well near where all the toxic inks bleed into the ground water.

It seems like preachers like this one forgets that he is just working as a servant for the Lord or he would be serving Him in a different way. He wouldn't be burning the books of the Lord no matter what version they where.. Heres a story to think about.Gen 18: 25 You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won't the judge of the earth do the just! " and you know the rest of the story... and if you dont...read it because its an awesome story... but my point is...God is the one always in control...sometimes we think we are ... and He shows us different...
